I have seen a few do this so I am going to jump on the wagon myself. I am setting 14 attainable goals 2014. I use the word attainable because I like most, will make many crazy new years resolutions that are nowhere near attainable. This year I want to hit my goals and keep going.
- I will get in better shape so I can look good in that wedding dress for 2015. This by far will be my hardest and most rewarding goal. I love food and I love to eat food. Carbs are a bestie to me but I really need not to be such close friends with all things pasta. My mantra for 2014 is “I will not be a fat bride” and that will help me not drink 6 cokes and eat a whole box of mac & cheese like I did when I was 20 (or 33). Here comes the diet coke with splenda!
- I will work harder on my blog. I will post more on my personal blog and I will get my professional one up and going soon. My goal is to make 3 posts a week. One for personal and 2 for professional. I do have a few that can hold me accountable for this. I also want to start putting out more guest blog posts. I will of course write for chriswiegman.com now since Bit51 is now merged with iThemes. I was happy to see that over Christmas break my piece on What Chili’s Is Doing Right was the 3rd highest page visited after re-launch. Shamless plug but I can do that every once in a while.
- This one I do not want anyone to start holding their breath or anything, but, I will start planning a wedding! John and I just need to get over it and do it. Maybe in the spring we will start going on it. Again please do not hold your breath. We do not need anyone turning blue.
- I will take more family time and Dina and I will make more memories in 2014. We are going to do more day trips and see the area sites. We will go camping this year. Well Dina and I will go camping. I want to also take Dina to some of the places Grandpa took me as a kid so the history nut can rub off on her just a bit more.
- I will take time to read more. Last year I was busy the whole year. I really did not take that much time to just sit in rest. If I have to schedule time in to just sit and read, I will. I love to read and I have about fifty books on the back burner.
- I will take time to do more crafting. I love to make things. I come from a long line of crafty people. I love putting a smile on those I make things for. If I work harder at it, I can do more, and create more smiles. It has never been about the money that could or could not be made making the crafts, but the joy it brings.
- I will learn to code. This has been on my list for a few years now. Up until about a few weeks ago, it scared the crud out of me. Right now I am learning html and will go up from there. I know it is a major in me developing in web design but I still feel that it is an ugly little bugger.
- I want to eat at home at least 4 times a week. When I was working at the day care center, I did not get home until 6:30 or later. To cook a big dinner, it would have been almost 8:00 before dinner was served and then Dina would have been going to bed shortly after. I did not find that fair to her or me so we ate out a lot. Now since I will be getting home earlier, we can eat at home much more.
I will try to get as close as I can to graduating this year. Even if I do not make graduation in 2014, I will make myself keep getting closer and closer. Every class gets me one step closer and I have worked too hard to stop now.
- I will do a little something for me every month. There are times where I know I should get my hair cut, or I could use a manicure, or my back could use a really good therapeutic massage and I just put it on the back-burner. For example, the past tree years I had saved up money specifically for an iPad. Every single time I turned around and spent the money on something else, typically for someone else. (The kid is expensive!) John went behind me and bought me one for Christmas because he knew I would never give in and buy myself one. So for once a month I will do a “me” thing even if it is just treating myself to a bubble tea without the kid in tow.
- I want to put my feet in the sand. I did not get to do this in 2013 and a girl needs a beach at least once a year.
- I want to pay off my car. We bought it last May and I would love to see that debt gone by Christmas. We were not really wanting another car note but once the Saturn started having problems, we knew we had to make a change. While I did want a SUV, I love my Fusion!!!
- I want to work John and I out of some of our debt. When we get married I want us to have as fresh of a financial start as we can. We might not be able to get completely debt free but we can make that gray cloud a lot smaller. Not eating out all the time will help this as well.
- I want to have a happy year. I have the best support system now that I have ever had. I have some amazing friends and people I consider my family. As the quote from The Devine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood… “Let no man put us under.” I will not let anyone steal my sunshine, thunder, or stage. This is my year and I am going to own it!
I hope you have enjoyed reading what I have in store for 2014 and I hope I have inspired you to make your own 14 for 2014. What goals have you already set?
