WordCamp St. Louis was a lot of fun. It was my first time ever volunteering for a WordCamp and I am very glad I did. I have always been one to give back, and I am very grateful to be able to help. As always with any WordCamp you walk away with an overload of great information, new friendships made, old friends seen, and an overall good feeling about the world. This WordCamp I went representing Foo Plugins. I really enjoyed the opportunity and I hope to do it again soon.
Here are my top 10 tidbits I either learned or just love hearing yesterday.
10. For anything that is broken, Google the fix. I already knew this but always love the line.
9. I really need to embrace Git. I really do.
8. Disclaimer:Nothing is ever 100% secure. Another known tidbit but always worth re-sharing.
7. If you use a $15.99 orange IKEA briefcase people may or may not want to try to steal your bag and get mad when they can not buy it at the online IKEA store.
6. Distrust data from any source. Even your own. Even your own files take chances of getting attacked.
5. WordCamps can be some of the only places where you can be tweeting a random attendee and they are actually sitting right beside you. True story.
4. Go in with and open mind. You never know what you will learn at a WordCamp.
3. Make WordPress.org Codex your best friend. One of the best conversations I had was with Brute Protect’s Sam Hotchkiss. Always geeky about a great security conversation.
2. The WordPress community has the best people in the world in it. This is always reaffirmed at every WordCamp or Meetup I attend.
1. “We’re all human and we all poop.” Hands down best line of the day! I absolutely loved Carrie Dils keynote presentation. She is awesome if you get the chance to meet her. Share your time, knowledge, and skills.
