We say it every year. This will be the year, MY year. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it happens in ways we never thought it would. 2014 was a year that will go down in history for me. So many new things happened, many things changed, and the little box my world was once in got a compete remodel.
The largest change was I decided that WordPress was going to make me money. With the beginning of 2015, I am working on my own business which will have it’s grand opening in late spring. Be looking for more details coming soon. I am already taking clients but not letting the cat out of the bag completely until the site is done to my liking. I will be doing design, content creation, website management, and some graphic design. Stay tuned folks. It will be great!
I finally had the right direction that I wanted and WordPress was the path I wanted to be on. I finished my Associate’s degree in Information Technology at the end of 2014 and have began my degree path for a Bachelor’s in Information Technology with a minor in Cyber Security and Web Site Design from Southern New Hampshire University. If you are looking into taking online classes, give them a look. I have been with them for almost two years and they have been a great school for me.
While on the WordPress path, I have now been to and spoken at several WordCamps with more in the works for the future. To see where I have been and where I am going please see my schedule. To learn more about WordCamps and to see where upcoming WordCamps will be held please check out WordCamp Central. They are a great inexpensive conference where you can get information overload for what to do with WordPress. I always walk away with more knowledge worth than what the $20-$60 fee I paid.
In January I also took on another role. I am now an instructor for John A Logan College’s Continuing Education Department teaching beginners and intermediate WordPress. I love to teach and I have missed it since changing career fields. Even though I have went from teaching preschoolers the alphabet and numbers to adults building beautiful websites, it is still teaching. My next class starts in April and will be a mix of beginner’s and advanced. Even if you have no knowledge of WordPress but are interested in learning how t build a blog or website please join my next class if you live in Southern Illinois.
One of my goals for 2015 was that I was going to blog more. Well…… January got away from me and I did not get one finished. Life happens sometimes. I am going to start investing myself as much as I can in my own growth, development, and prosperity. That means I have to start blogging more. Be prepared to see more posts in my Empowerment Series here and more geek talk over at Can’t Speak Geek.
Who knows what 2015 will bring. So far it has brought great joy and opportunities. I might even start planning that wedding. 😉 I wouldn’t hold my breath though.
